The Chicago Daily Herald is reporting on how to look for employment at Social Security. The article says that non-disabled job applicants should check Social Security Careers regularly, but does that website list the Federal Career Intern positions at Social Security? That is the knock on Social Security's hiring. Are many, perhaps most, job openings at Social Security filled without public notice of a job opening? Is that appropriate?

FCIP jobs are filled using recruiting events. They are not posted online and are only accessible to the people who attend the events (usually college job fairs).
This is not true. I'm a federal career intern at SSA and I got my position by applying through USA Jobs.
The sad fact is, very few SSA jobs are posted online. There should be THOUSANDS, but right now, on 06/21/09, there are TWELVE(12). That is unbelievable, and is shocking evidence of the incompetence of COSS and verification of why he needs to go immediately.
