From Alyssa Rosenberg at Fedblog, writing about the National Capital Area Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration awards dinner last night:
Reginald F. Wells, deputy commissioner for human resources of the Social Security Administration, received the David O. Cooke Award for Leadership in the Public Service. The award, which recognizes career achievement in federal service, was presented by Office of Personnel Management director John Berry and by Myra Howze Shiplett, a recognized leader in human resources management issues, who remarked on Wells' many contributions in the human capital arena.

Ummm, well, these folks also gave John Dyer awards for "management." Enough said.
"achievements in the human capital ariea"? Like helping to leave SSA so grossly understaffed that service to the public is an absolute joke? Oh yeah, good job. Give those SES boys more awards.
WOW! Social Security Administration has 3 Certified Class Actions against them, and was given such a prestegious award. Amazing! Apparently the Disabled Employees, the African-American Male Employeess and the African-American Female Classes were not considered in the mix when it was determined to present him with this award....OR, the situation at SSA was considered...perhaps those who considered him for the award were not representative of the neither class. Go figure.
Perhaps the award was issued based upon his association with the Goodwill Industries - since he is on the board as well as Human Resources at SSA and Goodwill Industries has a huge contract at SSA to clean the buildings....
Big deal, that award and $1.50 will get him a cup of coffee at 7-11.
The Disabled Employees, the African-American Male Employees and the African-American Female lawsuits are nothing but shakedowns.
Here is Reggie's latest award winning act.
A Message to All SSA Employees
In his June 18, 2009, Broadcast, Commissioner Astrue discussed President Obama’s recent memorandum regarding the extension of certain benefits to same-sex domestic partners. At that time, Commissioner Astrue asked that I solicit your ideas regarding current human resources policies that could be extended to same-sex domestic partners of our employees. To facilitate this, a mailbox has been established for employees who want to electronically submit suggestions and ideas.
Thank you and we look forward to receiving your suggestions and ideas.
