Did you notice that Great Britain is so proud of the civil servants who work in its national health system that they were a major feature of the opening ceremony for the London Olympics? This leads to a couple of obvious questions.
- Why aren't we in the U.S. proud of our civil servants, especially those who help people, like most Social Security employees?
- Why are some people so afraid of "Obamacare"? It doesn't even involve anything that can reasonably be described as nationalized health care yet Britons who are not so unlike us are so proud of their truly nationalized health care system that they feature it in their Olympic opening ceremony! Why shouldn't they be proud? They receive better health care than Americans at a lower cost.

Our nation was found during a great revolution. That feeling is pervasive even today. It is almost american to be against government - even if one is just saying it and not really against it. In britain, people are proud of the monarchy and their once great empire. it has been that way for many years. but you are right, as an ssa employee i constantly encounter people that have zero trust in me and the agency. some customers don't even want to give me their ssn when they come to the office for a question. that's like going to the bank and refusing to show ur debit card to the teller......only in america
Why shouldn't we be afraid of Obamacare?
I can think of a few reasons to worry about its impact:
1. Taxes intended to be used for the general welfare are going to for-profit health insurers to subsidize their already too-pricey products.
2. Premiums should continue to increase with the advent of subsidies, similar to college education costs rising, partially due to the availability of college loans.
Insurers can make profits of 15-20 percent. How does limiting their profits contain premium increases?
Insurers will simply make 15-20% on higher premiums.

The main reason most Americans believe that we have the best health care system is because it is our healthcare system. Believe me, if we had the system the British have and the British, and the rest of Europe had a system like ours, these same people would be saying that America has the best system. It's not about the system, it's about America.
anon 2:36,
I never thought of it that way. I think you're right
Let's not also forget that Obamacare legalizes murder of children and penalizes those who morals and ethics view it as such and refuse to bow down to the immoral and unethical law.
A7:11P, take your bizarro posts elsewhere, please.
"Obamacare" only legalizes "murder of children" if you consider contraceptive pills to constitute the murder of children. You are free to believe that if you want, but I don't even think the Catholic Church considers the pill to be an abortifacient. The Church's objection to contraception is a bit more subtle than claiming that anything that interferes with pregnancy constitutes abortion.
Maybe cold showers are murder?
Contraceptives are one thing. Using tax dollars to fund Planned Parenthood under Obamacare is another. Is it any wonder those who shouted "tolerance" and "equality" (e.g. gay rights and liberals) are themselves very intolerant and demand no equality of voice from conservatives and pro-family?
I'm not aware of any connection between "Obamacare" and funding of Planned Parenthood. Any Federal funds going to Planned Parenthood were there long before "Obamacare" so if that is your objection, your beef is not with "Obamacare."
