A Three Year Battle Ends With Success

The parents of four year old Maziah Mills-Sorrells have been trying to get Supplemental Security Income disability benefits for her for three years. A District Court has finally approved her claim. Maziah was born with Klumpke's palsy which causes paralysis of her left arm. He parents both work and are trying to support a family of four on their minimum wage fast food jobs.

The Philadeiphia Inquirer speculates that it was publicity (from them) that got SSA to give this girl SSI (before court gave her backpay). Publicity in Las Vegas got the agency to move on restroom graffitti. Publicity about Huntington ... about ALJ Gatewood in Iowa (lengthy delays after hearings)... Sounds like publicity is what makes SSA do the right thing! SO, we need journalists to do heart wrenching stories on Denier judges and people harmed by their decisions. Show the people the real scandal of SSDI: disabled people denied due to "lack of evidence" or "credibility."

pathetic!

Wonder if a dedicated account will be required and if the parents will follow the rules of the dedicated account and if not, will SSA do anything about it?

Also hope the parents save their pay stubs.

And publicity is also needed to expose cover up and corruption among some of the highest SSA/ODAR officials and managers.

3 years doesn't seem that long anymore

I am not sure how a 4 year old with a paralyzed non-dominant arm is disabled using SSA regulations??

Maybe functionally meets w/marked impairments in two domains, probably 4 and then either 5 or 6.
