Analysis Of Reduction In SSI Claims Filed Since Field Offices Shut Down

This slide deck was obtained from Social Security by the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR) and published in its newsletter, which is not available online to non-members. Click on each to view full size.

I think we should all expect that once Social Security field offices reopen that there will be a huge number of disability claims filed. I hope there will be enough staff to take and adjudicate those claims.

Doubtful the staff left will be able to handle the landslide of claims, if that's what happens.

Makes sense. SSA's own data show that when FOs are permanently closed, applications for disability disappear. This also might confirm that older Americans are more likely to seek in-person help; only a little more than half of applicants apply online.

If they are all SSI there wont be a stack of reps looking to take them.

File online or make an appointment and file over the phone. There aren't going to be waiting rooms with 50 or 100 people waiting in them like there were previously. One may be able to file in person when offices reopen but by appointment only. Might as well do it now via the net or phone.
