0.5% Increase In Social Security's Operating Budget

The huge appropriations/stimulus bill that was just passed by Congress and which should soon be signed by the President includes a $12.9 billion appropriation for Social Security's administrative expenses, an increase of $67 million or 0.5% from the last fiscal year.

Update: I've corrected the math error. It's not a 5% increase, but a 0.5% increase. There's a reason I'm a lawyer and not an engineer!

Hope it gets spent wisely.

Are you sure of the math?

Isn’t that .5%?

Yes, it is only .5%. Does that even cover the increase in agency costs?

Doesn't even cover inflation.

We're saving millions on reduced guard services, no longer paying VHR's, little to no custodial services/trash hauling/shred services, no need to update office furniture, reduced utilities, no mileage/travel costs for VE's, Reps and claimants and reduced paper and office supplies.

I think we'll get by.

2:12 I am sure you are being facetious about the savings but it is worthwhile to still note that in a budget of 12.9 Billion, millions is a rounding error.

@ 9:43...why do you think 2:12 is being facetious? Those things he mentioned are real cost savings. Based on decreased spending, SSA should have had a lot of money "left over" in FY2020.

I see a guard at my old office everyday. Assuming that he protecting the manager.
