The backlog...is growing again.
Something has gone horribly wrong.
The last ALJ hire was the October 2017 class. Commissioner Andrew "Bring Back the Backlog" Saul quashed a modest new hiring class in 2019 after the trainers had already been selected. ALJs retire or die every year. The DDS backlog is at a million cases, most of which will be at hearing level in a year. Biden named the ACOSS, but OHO management is still far right politically. Big big mess. OHO wants to scapegoat the ALJs. Maybe the backlog is by design.
