SSI Is A Mess

Gabrielle Emmanuel has put out a long piece for WBUR on the problems that SSI claimants, particularly children and their parents, face in filing claims, dealing with the Social Security Administration and staying on benefits.

SSI is disappearing before our eyes. Social Security lacks the money it needs to administer the program. There's all the money in the world to cut people off benefits but precious little to help people get on the SSI benefits they deserve and to help them stay on those benefits.

Is the father alive? Is he paying child support? Does he have medical insurance.

Perhaps i missed the answer in the article.

If i'm correct, the article stated SSI prevented crime. Is that a good reason for the SSI program?

I hate to say it but SSA has limited funding and removing children who are not totally helpless and are legally bound to the care and instructions of a parent is the fiscally right thing to do. In other words, where is all the money coming from?

You are kidding right? Not a day goes by that I don’t hear a commercial on the radio that explains what SSI is and how to apply for it. Then at the end it says “paid for at taxpayer expense “

Because there is no time for SSI to do anything but redeterminations and limited issues.
