Profile In Courage

Ms. magazine has a nice piece out titled “Profiles in Courage: Michelle King Refused to Hand Over Your Data to DOGE. Then She Lost Her Job.” It’s worth a read.

Too bad she hasn't spoken out since, at least that I've seen. Laura Haltzel is the only former SSA executive that I've seen who has really spoken out.

The true profiles in courage are the current SSA employees who are still plugging away in horrendous work conditions not a former high ranking SSA official whose enjoying her nice pension and doing interviews.

Maybe it’s both?

11:58 - Your empathy is amazing - thank goodness for open-minded people like you. Michelle did the honorable and ethical thing and didn't bow down to illegal requests for data - your personal, private data that may now be weaponized against you and others. It doesn't take away from the public servants who are continuing to do their jobs while being terrorized each day. That said, show me an interview that Michelle has done - you didn't read the Ms Magazine article apparently.... Please try and be a little less petty....

So she refused to hand over the data and was fired. Then she packed up her things and ran off to the midwest with her tail between her legs. And later, decided to do an interview. Where is the fight? Why didn't agency leadership speak out? Instead they just scattered. They should have been tapping into every news outlet, contacting every available reporter, and on the Hill with Congress shouting about the criminality and the violation of privacy that is happening. The American public needs to know and it was their responsiblity to ensure the ignominy did not get lost in the shuffle. Instead, their biggest concerns were their careers ending and their loss of power and title.
