Let me see if I have this right. The Trump Administration induces thousands of Social Security employees to resign their jobs. Their only replacement, if there is one, is reassigned employees who are untrained on their new jobs and who are almost worse than useless for now because of the mistakes they make. The only solution, other than pointless exhortations to work harder, is to give the remaining employees lots of overtime. So, you pay employees 150% of their regular wages to do the work, or some of it, instead of paying the employees you got rid of 100% of their regular wages to do the same work.
I’m glad we’ve got great managers running Social Security like a business.

It’s even worse than that. They’re getting paid 150% of wages that are already higher than the salaries of those they replaced due to the mandatory retention of the higher salary from their prior positions.
They aren’t running it like a business. They’re running it like deranged clowns with intellectual disabilities.
This is what happens when you hire corporate executives whose only skill is cutting overhead to maximize profits. Bisignano's successes will be attributed to his bold leadership. His failures will be blamed on a lazy bureaucrats who didn't buy into his bold leadership. Republicans will cite those failures as evidence that, despite their best efforts, there's too much rot within SSA to fix it. Either way, Bisignano will walk away with a net worth close to nine figures and zero accountability.
And- they are allowing some departments to get paid premium pay AT HOME on overtime to do the same work that these departments are told does not qualify for work at home during the week. So for regular pay, you cannot be trusted to work from home, but for premium pay, you can.
Also- there was no forethought into what employees went to what departments. Those with prior FO experience might get sent to the PSC or TSC, and not back to the FO. Had they actually taken the time to look to see where these employees came from before they went to the RO/HQ, they might have found places that made more sense. And, the training is self-paced online training. How well will that go?
Nothing, I repeat, nothing is being done better in SSA. Those untrained and under trained "non-volunteers" are not and will not help the situation at all. Their previous duties are not being performed and you can't have a front-end operation last long without support. SSA is not just a simple form-taking operation. SSA law is very complex and not simply a fill-out-the-form operation. Only hope is to restore the previously existing organization structure and get those specialized employees back to their jobs. Gutting established HQ and Regions and their staffs was a very stupid move.
Let me correct you: close to ten figures.
A significant amount of this horror is so that Elon Musk can claim to be the first person with a 14-figure net worth. There's literally nothing he wouldn't do to become a trillionaire.
They scared so many retirement aged tsc employees who were mission critical and not allowed to take the DRP that some of them retired. I lost 4 in my unit alone. Now we got informed on Friday our flexband is cancelled in the tscs due to management needs to serve the surge in phone calls
Going according to the Republican plan to destroy Social Security!
They're also intentionally reassigning people to jobs they're not trained to do even though those individuals have years of experience in front line work in other positions.
DOGE wants sell of most agency HQs in Washington because they can use money and agencies should be where they are needed throughout the country. Using that logic, why would SSA disband several Regions that supported unique areas of the country. Talk about stupidity and a waste!
This isn’t about saving money. None of it is. The RTO cost made us very aware throughout any agency that it wasn’t about saving money.
Still shocked about the RO thing after his attempts to move other HQ and major offices with other agencies out of the beltway.
Love the waste of folks taking the fork and getting paid six months of salary, coverage, increases towards their retirement for doing nothing but sitting at home. No transition or succession planning. Billions of our tax dollars wasted.
This would make sense and would be a good idea. Sell off all ROs and HQ as they are sparsely attended. But with the RTO there is no cost savings. Someone should have a discussion with Frank about the value of telework. I’m sure he’d love to hear about the savings.
Restore HQ and ROs that were destroyed and staffs dispersed. There is no organization chart or names of anyone in charge. Emails and contacts are not being responded to because no one is there. Internal support is needed now. People and employees deserve nothing less. Frank, please get involved and restore internal operations now!
By design, set them up for failure so you can fire them !$!$!
It’s all going perfectly to plan - soon the Trust fund can be handed over Wall Street to gamble with and, win or loose, the commissions for placing the bets will make them a fortune. Grandma’s retirement is a small price to pay!
Clarification: Overtime is capped at the 150% rate of GS 10 step 1, so most of the reassigned RO and HQ employees are not getting 150% of their retained rate.
I know field office workers dearly miss those of us who were providing regional support and guidance. We were able to direct them through many issues. An utter travesty RO support has vanished. Work in the FO is so much harder and less rewarding for us RO workers. We shouldn't be subjected to such conditions.
