The Trump administration had plans to classify 2.7 million living people — including some U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents — as dead as part of its immigration enforcement efforts, according to a former senior Social Security executive.
The previously unreported plan, which the Social Security Administration said was not carried out, would have used one of the government’s most consequential identity databases to effectively erase people from the financial system, potentially cutting them off from wages, banking, government benefits and other services.
Jeremiah Schofield, who worked at Social Security for 25 years and helped lead the agency’s IT modernization efforts before leaving in October, said he refused to help implement the plan after agency lawyers warned that falsely marking living people as dead could violate federal law. …
Schofield has provided details on the plan in a 49-page whistleblower disclosure to the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which was reviewed by The Washington Post. The disclosure offers the most detailed account yet of how officials from Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service sought to use Social Security data in service of President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown. …

Yes, old news but most Repubtards are not even aware of or flat out deny this administration is doing these things. We all need to agree on truthful facts if we are to move forward as a Country. Our Federal whistleblowers are important truth tellers if the public will only listen
@5:50pm: you will find people who spoke out and helped stopped things, illegal or otherwise wrong, without having to leave first. And if successful waited to say something to avoid a threat to pension, etc. I know JS. He’s a good guy. I also stopped some harmful things from happening. I don’t need to detail them or identify myself because I was successful at stopping them. And to be clear nothing to do with politics. My politics don’t align with most agency employees. I do care about the people we serve, whether red, blue, or purple and balancing that with supporting the administration.
If you're going to link to an article, make it accessible and not a paywall. As for the whistleblowing, this was old news and there's not much risk when you've already left, with a trail of destruction behind you. There wasn't one instance when JS spoke up publicly in meetings, not like Greg Pearre or others did when this plan was first hatched in Feb. 2025. There was no risk in this except an opportunity for headlines for a guy who likes to hear himself talk...
Exactly. Jeremiah wanted attention 6 months into his retirement. Chuck Borges was a whistleblower. Jeremiah isn’t.
When he worked in the Seattle Regional Office, he was very diligent. He always kept every Social Security employee in the building up to date on work. Very good at his job.
