My Social Security Redesigned

     An announcement from Social Security:

We have exciting news to share! We redesigned my Social Security!

It’s now easier for your clients who receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to do business with us online and find the information that they need.

With the new design, people who receive Social Security benefits or SSI are now able to update their telephone number online and see more information under the Benefits and Payments section. People who receive Social Security benefits can also change their address and direct deposit information under the My Profile tab.

While signed into their personal my Social Security account, your clients can continue to:

  • Get their Benefit Verification or proof of income letter.
  • Obtain replacement SSA-1099/SSA-1042S tax forms, if applicable.
  • View their Social Security Statement.
  • Request a replacement Social Security card.

Your clients can access their redesigned my Social Security account at www.ssa.gov/myaccount.

Now, if they'd just allow those who have pending disability claims to access their earnings records or file retirement claims ...

If you have a MySSA account you have access to your Social Security Statement showing your reported earnings from IRS.

Hmmmm, a few blank pages load here and there still, but it looks a bit more user friendly. I have a feeling SSI recipients will still have to go in, or call to change information. Great for retirement benefits, and SSDI though.

Using third party identification because nobody can get the damn thing set up in the first place. It is a helpful tool, but getting into it can be a real hassle. If you are expecting older retirees to do it without assistance you are sorely wrong, more recent retirees are about 50/50.

Our office assists people getting a MySSA and MyMedicare account set up, because doing business with the agency any longer is so cumbersome you have to be able to do things on your own because they are no longer able to provide any assistance, you have to do all your own leg work and then provide them their own documents before you can get any thing done in the next few months.

Anything beyond the most basic information and the site is totally and completely useless, as in you might as well just be on FB or something because the functionality is just not there. If you want us to do all the damn work ourselves, then make it so we can do the work.

@12:41 You provide a great service assisting people with getting those accounts set up. Kudos to you! I understand your frustration, but remember when you are frustrated, that you are doing a service to those who need you. Thank you, from a fellow human.

2:15 Any SHIP site, AAoA, ADRC or CIL can provide assistance in getting these sites set up for the aging and disabled. These offices are generally funded by a combination of state and federal funds, they can have no affiliation with any insurance company or broker. Good resources!

I just look at this, let me expand...btw if you are a representative and do not provide a list of these locally for the people you are getting benefits for you are doing a horrible job of caring for your client. You should have these available for folks that need help during application and after approval or denial.

AAoA Area Agency on Aging or AAAs or Triple As provide assistance, referral and services to people over the age of 60 and in some states also provide assistance to those with a disability. Super handy, not all offices are equal, but they should be able to point people in the right direction for assistance if they cannot handle it.

SHIP State Health Insurance (assistance) Program are mandated by federal law and supported by a combination of funds from federal and state programs primarily the Oler Americans Act, SHIPs are trained in providing information and assistance with Medicare and Medicaid, from filing to billing issues and explanations of Medicare products. Best place for help during the upcoming Medicare Part D Open Enrollment, they can help you find the right plan for your needs and they do not get any money from insurance companies. They dont steer, they provide info and assistance. Best for Medicare billing problems!

ADRC Aging and Disability Resource Centers across the country seek to address the frustrations many older adults, people with disabilities, and family members experience when trying to learn about and access long-term services and supports.

ADRCs raise visibility about the full range of available options; provide objective information, advice, counseling and assistance; empower people to make informed decisions about their long-term services and supports; and help people access public and private programs. ADRCs provide unbiased, reliable information and counseling to people with all levels of income.

CIL Centers for Independent Living designed and operated by individuals with disabilities, Centers for Independent Living (CILs) provide independent living services for people with disabilities. CILs are at the core of ACL's independent living programs, which work to support community living and independence for people with disabilities across the nation based on the belief that all people can live with dignity, make their own choices, and participate fully in society. These programs provide tools, resources, and supports for integrating people with disabilities fully into their communities to promote equal opportunities, self-determination, and respect.

I've used it before, but now it's not giving me anything useful at all. Hopefully, they'll get it fixed before I need it again.

What useful features would you like?

Reporting work wages, DIB RIB or SSI?

Updates on Filing, is my RIB application being looked at by anyone ever?

Esignature, the ability to upload documents so I dont have to send my birth certificate to never be seen again, although I was able to take care of it for 64 years but SSA lost after saying that they would take care and send it back and I had the SIGN for it and they still have no idea which shred pile it went into.

You know little things like that. I can buy a house, a car and get a cashier check for $1000000 with less requirements than a freaking $1800 retirement check.

You can report work.

SSI will most likely never have the option to update anything more than wages or a mailing address online. Too many factors to SSI, it’s just too complicated and Congress has no REAL interest in streamlining it.

Uploading documents - Hopefully at some point. Why did we need your birth certificate? Was you fat of birth discrepant on our records? I can’t remember the last time I need to see anyone’s birth certificate for any reason.

The biggest problem with uploading documents is verifying the validity of the document. Hard to tell from a scan.

All of the features you seem to want have little to do with receiving benefits and more to do with the filing process which I agree needs improvements.

I was trained by SSA on the document thing and it is a total and complete farce, like you know every single type of original birth certificate issues by every office in the entire US and world. Get over that total line of BS. How can you tell a "real" marriage license, again from literally all over the entire world? Again get over that line of BS.

You cant even operate a phone system. Or properly track dead people, but you know every single type of original document ever created. SMH

Maybe you should have been paying attention during class.

We verify birth certificates through an electronic verification system. There a a couple of state’s that don’t participate but most do.

We don’t accept birth certificates at all from some places due to rampant fraud. Puerto Rico was one such place.

I’m Ohio, where I am, we can verify the marriage document online through the courts

As far as foreign birth or marriage documents - we send those to people who translate them and verify them for us.

By the way, we don’t typically get documents from other state’s or other countries regularly. I’m sure employees in offices by borders on in areas with lots of immigrants have an even better system for verifying documents. And since you were trained by SSA, you know how to pull up the document verification website and make sure all of the special markings are present.

It’s not rocket science. And why so angry about documents. Relax guy, it’s gonna be ok.

3:28 Please send me your original birth certificate and your drivers license and your SSA card in the mail, I will sign for them just like SSA did. Then I will return yours to you when SSA returns mine to me. So far it has been since the first week of May.

Relax, Its not rocket surgery. Just high paid incompetency.

Oh and btw 3:28 because they have lost my documents my retirement didnt start on time, and I am not getting paid, so send me your pay too. After all it isnt rocket surgery and I will give you all the pay back when and if I get paid, thats what SSA tells me as I try to replace all my documents without any documents.
