Subject: President to Nominate Martin O'Malley as SSA's Commissioner
Today, President Biden announced his intent to nominate the Honorable Martin O’Malley as SSA’s Commissioner. Governor O’Malley’s previous public service positions include the Mayor of Baltimore and the Governor of Maryland. If confirmed by the Senate, Governor O’Malley would bring a wealth of experience in running a large and complex government agency.
I will remain the Acting Commissioner through the confirmation process. I look forward to continuing to lead this amazing agency and making progress on service improvements.
As always, thanks for all you do.
Kilolo Kijakazi, Ph.D., M.S.W.
Acting Commissioner

Every employee I know rolls their eyes when the ACOSS signs her emails with her academic accolades in her signature. It's like the person who doesn't have any tangible real world experience and continues to lean heavily on their degrees to make them seem relevant to their currently roles. The day she is gone as ACOSS is a day that employees can celebrate.
In SSA employee groups on Facebook, there are a ton of Maryland based employee and retiree's who are so so if not anti- O'Malley. But many never lived in Baltimore City when he was mayor but had opinions about how the city should have been run. But O'Malley didn't strive to be popular but get things done, and overall it's a solid managerial selection. He's got plenty experience with organizations in crisis, budget constrained and bad morale.
O’Malley was a far better mayor than he was governor. Raised too many taxes and fees as governor.
Not sure why he wants this job as SSA commissioner. There’s a good chance he’ll be fired in a year if the Republicans take the White House.
Well, there is a very good chance the Dems retain the White House in 2024, because the alternative is Trump 2.0. So, O'Malley has that going for him, which is nice.
