WEP/GPO Bill Advances While Government Shutdown Looms

The Hill reports that the bill to end the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset passed a crucial vote in the Senate yesterday 73-27. This isn’t final passage but the margin suggests that the bill is likely to pass. It has already been passed the House of Representatives.

In other legislative news, President-elect Trump seems to be ordering a government shutdown. At least he’s ordering Republican legislators not to vote for the Continuing Resolution they just negotiated with Democrats. The GOP can’t pass the CR without Democratic votes in this Congress and probably not in the next. Most of Social Security will stay open if the shutdown happens beginning December 20 but there would be no money to continue paying salaries for long. I have no idea what the endgame is here.

If you voted for Trump, this is the chaos you voted for.

This should be called the "Social Security Unfairness Act." It gives an undeserved bonus to those who work in uncovered state employment if they do a little covered work on the side, but is unfair to all the policemen, firefighters, and school teachers who have spent a career covered by Social Security and who receive no such bonus for any extra work.

I wonder if the federal employees who voted for Trump now regret it. The circus is in town for all to see.

The WEP and GPO legislation could not come in a worse time with a government shutdown looming.

Welcome to the new open out front oligarchy

Elon Musk has made more money kn the last thirty days than the total combined annual salary of the executive branch. But people are cheering him on as he tells them we can’t afford to fund the government programs they depend on for survival?

Nice job, GOP. The conversion of your base into thoughtless subjects/sheep appears to be complete.

Don’t regret it at all.

Hey Elon, did you forget?

Tesla Motors Inc., which received $465 million in U.S. Energy Department loans to develop and build electric cars.

No regrets. Shut it down until 1/20/25.

So the trolls don't regret voting to end democracy and institute a kakistocracy. . . yet. . . . Hopefully, in the next few years, they will recognize a convicted felon, liar, fraudster, liar, convicted corporate tax evader, liar, and traitor when they see one (did I mention liar?). Of course, if they are so blind that they don't see that yet, why do I believe you will shed their ignorance. . . .

Federal employee who voted for Trump here! Zero regrets here. Booming economy, anti-woke policies, and a fabulous new Commissioner. My only fear is Charles will start making so much money he'll have to shutdown this blog!

A government shutdowns is looming but yet Biden is giving federal employees a day off before Christmas? Isn’t Biden following the news? The House of Representatives is currently in Plan “C” and don’t have a clue of what to do next. President Biden and incoming President Musk must work together in avoiding a shutdown.

The ones saying they don't regret it and they want to shut it down are the non-essential employees who will get a paid vacation and brag about it while the rest of us have to keep going to work while having to tap into savings to keep our mortgage paid.

Wait … isn’t Musk already running the government?

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said Thursday she would be open to supporting Elon Musk for House Speaker, an idea proposed by other Republicans as Congress faces a government shutdown Friday night

I am good with a shut down. I get paid either way.
