Turmoil In Social Security Management?

This is from a couple of posts on Bluesky from @altssa.altgov.info who purports to be a current Social Security employee. I cannot vouch for this person but this fits in with what I’ve heard elsewhere:

Deputy Commissioner of Operations Stephen Evangelista will reportedly be back at work on Monday after having a confrontation with commish Frankie over changes being made to operations and changes they want to make to operations that Evangelista is almost certainly correct about being bad for … [post one]

SSA operations and staffing. Frankie apparently doesn’t like being told he’s wrong, so his reaction to being given data and facts about why his ideas are 💩 was to call Evangelista a “fucking liar.” Allegedly, of course. Sounds like a guy you definitely want to work for, amiright???? 😑😑😑😑 [post two]

The only information I hear from leadership comes in the form of rumors like this. You can never know if these things are true or not. It certainly sounds like the type of thing that might be true, though, right?

I distinctly recall that one town hall where Frank said things would be super easy. Literally 0 people alive took that statement seriously, and lo and behold, it seems like cracks are already showing. If Frank starts being honest about the issues the agency faces, I might even bump up the respect meter from 0 respect to 0.1% respect. It would at least be a start. Gotta start somewhere if he sticks out all 6 years like he promised he totally would.

Frankie thinks he knows everything since he’s a wealthy individual. He takes after his boss.

This lines up with the unions warning today that all CSRs in FOs will be assigned to full time TSC work starting 8/1 as appointment only and “online services” alleviates the number of unscheduled walk-ins to where CS can handle it all

Got a link?

That is the funniest thing I have heard today!!

It’s also on the prior post. Where are they hearing this?

Who knows how true the post is. However, this is literally the whole MO of the entire current administration, from Trump down to his lackeys, so I’m just guessing there is some legitimate truth to what’s being said.

The Commissioner is against many policies and procedures that have worked well. The solutions he has implemented have not helped. He does not like telework, yet many are still allowed to do it and/or have ridiculous reasonable accommodations approved.
Things seem to be getting worse, not better.

Sounds true as the number of people going into field offices continues to drop and got to realign staff to where the customer is.

I was excited to finally discover an “Alt” SSA account. But there doesn’t seem to be much there.

849 field offices are very busy in fact busier vs a year ago

These guys may well be totally wrong. No one likes to be told they are wrong whether they are goofy or actually correct.

Just a random SSA employee so take that for what it's worth.

Yes, can the original commenter please share where exactly the union has said that every CSR is going to the TSC effective 8/1? Our local union leadership doesn’t seem to be aware of this.

Good managers should *like* having accurate, reality-based information, whether or not it fits their preconceived notions and ideology.
That turns out this administration, obviously.

What is the point of your post?..to complain about your fellow coworkers and their needs? instead just keep doing your job and worry about yourself and hopefully telework will return because it is beneficial to all.

Anonymous said...

It is certainly not beneficial to all.

Things must have been bad for *Stephen Evangelista* to actually stand up to Bisignano and tell him the truth, if indeed that’s what happened. Stephen doesn’t actually give a damn about anyone but Stephen, so he must have been told to do something really self-defeating.

Frank is dumber than dirt but thinks he possesses god-like omnipotence because he has lots of money. Even people like Stephen can inly tolerate so much of that brand of bulls**t.

Yes, things are getting worse.

That probably has very little to do with the indiscriminate firings, the intentional demoralization of the workforce, the random and repeated re-orgs, the decimation of the senior executive service, the complete lack of information transfer during those moves, the fact that the agency can't even produce an accurate org chart or the fact that the entire agency has been in a constant state of general dysfunction and disorganization since at least March. It's definitely because some single-digit percent of the Agency has what you have decided are "ridiculous reasonable accommodations".

It's wild to see someone working for an Agency with this workload be so outwardly hostile to folks with disabilities while also being dismissive of the very real failures within the Agency.

Maybe Frank realized Evangelista is an 8-5pm guy with a booming music career, book launches, podcasts, and who knows what else going on on the side. Hard to imagine how a guy in a DC-level role for the past 15 years could have so many side hustles. It actually explains a lot of the inertia. American taxpayers deserve better.

When you do nothing but take credit for other people’s work and pass it all off as your own, you have unlimited free time! Working long hours is for the peons.

Tuesday and no sign of Evangelista on Teams since Friday.
