New Office In NC

From the Raleigh News and Observer:
The Social Security Administration will employ about 200 people at a new site in Research Triangle Park [North Carolina] that will act as the agency's headquarters in the Durham area.

Highwoods Properties announced last week that the SSA had leased 68,000 square feet of office space in its Pamlico office building. ...

A spokesperson for the SSA said the agency has been hiring people for the headquarters since 2008 and will continue to fill positions locally and through relocations. The RTP office will provide IT and administrative services for the SSA.
This is in my backyard. This sounds awfully large for an area supervisor office, but maybe I don't know just how big those are. Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is for?

This is not an area office. It it a branch of the Office of Systems being established to run the new data center in Durham. Nationally, there are over 4000 OS employees, currently attached to the data center in Baltimore.

This is a really huge deal. Who is/are the congressmen/US Senators who landed this for that area? A brand new facility with that many employees is a major coup for someone.

Deputy Commissioner for Budget, Finance and Management Mary Glen-Croft testified about this earlier this year before the Social Security Subcommittee. I think some of the ARRA fund were allocated to building this site which will support the current National Computer Center at SSA's Woodlawn HQ. That site is currently in extreme need of upgrades. When Astrue became Commissioner and first toured the NCC, he was dismayed at how it had been neglected and committed to fight for the funding.
