Vice-president of Agile Government Services Incorporated, a company in Overland Park, Kansas with two employees. In other words, well qualified to be a Deputy Commissioner at SSA.

Seems to be administratively qualified. I'm happy to see mr obama has tried to fairly diversify his administration, representing the face of america.

Obviously, this person has a deep and complete understanding of the most important social welfare and earned benefit program in the USA. Good times ahead for SSA and the USA!

Is this a joke? The guy has zero qualifications for the job. Smells like a favor is being paid here.

Experience with Sprint--great--he can help answer phones.

favor. Looks like Obama is getting all his buddies in key positions before leaving after next year.

Did not see any experience dealing with people with disabilities or really any kind of government. Meh. Just like Colvin as SSA commissioner.

Give the black man a chance. With his education and experience,it certainly seems he can learn.

He did work three summers as a baggage handler and freight loader. With those qualifications, why should I doubt his ability to run an airline?

Sorry folks, but this is about "evening things up," ethnicity-wise. Just that simple. And why I no longer support this Administration.

I think this is an absolutely shocking nomination. The Agency, its employees, and the American people deserve better than this. Maybe this man can walk on water, I don't know. However, based on resume alone he doesn't seem to be even close to the best of choices. I hope this isn't the beginning of Obama's revenge campaign.

Do you want it all white, all the time? How many highly paid aljs are of color?

The majority of ALJ's in my office are of color...

I don't understand why folks are bringing color into this debate...we should be past that. The issue is whether this guy is qualified. On the face of things it certainly would not appear that he is. While he may be smart, a Deputy Commissioner position is not a place to learn how to do the job.

So the next question becomes if he is not qualified, what is the reason/connection for him being selected? I haven't done the necessary due diligence to ascertain that yet. Maybe there is none or maybe he is an Obama insider or friend of some sort. I will be interested to see what comes out of this.

You just answered your own question as to why race has been tossed out there.

Anonymous said...

@9:25PM So are you suggesting that race is brought up because that would be the only reason Obama would have picked him (assuming he isn't qualified)? I can think of 10 reasons apart from race, but race is always the first, and typically the only, thing that people bring up.

Partial List of other potential reasons besides race(not saying any are applicable):
1. They are friends
2. He is a contributor and owed a return favor.
3. Obama slept with his wife.
4. He interviewed really well.
5. No one else wanted the job.
6. They picked his name out of hat.

Race is always a possibility when clear and convincing evidence doesn't support another conclusion.

Mr eanes is the Deputy Commissioner Nominee. NOT commissioner nominee. With a"B.A. from Ohio Northern University and an M.B.A. from Baldwin Wallace College"and administrative experience,he certainly is educated enough to learn SSA in a deputy commissioner
capacity.

Unfortunately bias/prejudice is alive and well in america.

He is just plain *green* as far as Social Security matters are concerned. There are plenty jobless MBAs out there - why pick this one with no SSA experience?

You said you didn't understand why people brought color into the discussion. I provided you the reason why. He does not appear to be qualified based on his resume. Therefore, any and all potential "connections" can be explored. Do I think it's because he's the same race as the president? No, I don't believe that myself, I think the president has made a multitude of bad choices and this just looks to be another. Could I be wrong...maybe, time will tell.

I can honestly say that Mr. Eanes is highly qualified and brings extensive experience to SSA. He asks strategic questions, and with his vast IT experience will move SSA in the right direction. All the old silo approaches and existing culture in SSA will slowly change under the leadership of Mr. Eanes. President Obama made the best selection for this position.

I have seen plenty of white people in jobs they are "not qualified" for - but I doubt any of the people whining here are complaining about that. So YES, asking why you're bringing up race IS a valid argument.

Maybe the real issue is that some of you whiners are just upset that you or one of your buddies wasn't chosen. And so what if his company had two employees? At least he had the balls to START a company in the first place! And anybody who has ever tried to start their own business (and I'm not talking about rich boys using Daddy's money) knows that if you make ANY revenue, you are doing great! Running a business is hard work and very difficult to get off the ground and succeed.

So instead of b*ching about a black man that you resent, how about trying to be part of the solution and not the problem!

That is all...

I totally agree! The resentful race baiters that accuse Obama of selecting him based on race say nothing about "White privilege." That occurs exponentially more than an educated Black man landing a position based on his intellect. But this is America, so the ignorance prevails, especially when it is rooted in FEAR OF AN EDUCATED BLACK MAN. He was more than competent to make changes in the IT world at SSA and HE HAS! Knowledge is transferrable. Ignorance stagnates.
