Will Decline In OT Be Reversed Due To Extra Covid-19 Funding?

This was obtained from Social Security by the National Organization of Social Security Claimants Representatives (NOSSCR) and published in its newsletter, which is not available online to non-members. Click on the image to view full size.
By the way, isn't it time to update the heading for this report? ODAR has been out of business for some time now.

Well since they are all being more productive working from home i say no.

Since the workload is only going to continue to drop due to postponements related to Covid, I'm going to also say no. There is a bigger need for work than there is for extra time to get work done.

I am hoping OHO will be more efficient.

First, ALJs will spend less time commuting to do hearings. This to me has been a benefit. I did not realize how much time was wasted just commuting to hearings.

Also, I would think this would free up the front person checking those in to do more work.

Also, I would think the maintenance costs for the actual offices should be lower without need for lights, maintenance, etc.

This is why some telework was always a smart idea despite Saul trying to eliminate it. Many people today have learned to be more productive at home.

I am not so sure about the local SSA offices. So I see a slow down in the processing of claims. But the OHOs should be more efficient.

@6:48. Are we paying ALJs for their commute time, other than travel to remote hearing sites? I can’t imagine the number of ALJs traveling to a remote sight on a given day is that high. Do you have any data on this?

I'm not sure how no longer commuting to hearings is more efficient, unless you routinely had to drive to permanent remote sites that counted travel time towards your 8-hour workday. Driving into the office isn't part of the day, so that shouldn't make a difference. It might allow you to work more credit, I suppose, but that's not making you more efficient. It's just letting you work longer.

The CR or whoever mans the front desk does have more time to do things, but SCTs overall have less time because they're being forced to work the DRAP to cover hearings instead of doing their usual work.

DRAP is such a sad acronym

No need for OT. Incoming receipts are at the lowest level in 10+ years. Current pending cases lowest level in memory.
