The Idea That SSA Employees Would Retire Rather Than Be Vaccinated Was Always Ridiculous

This article is only about early retirement which has never been popular.

One employee in my unit retired with regular retirement, rather than get vaccinated. He said he had an allergic reaction to the first dose and his request for a medical exemption to the requirement was not approved in time.

I agree. The vaccine isn’t the issue it’s the current state of the agency in general. I’m hoping they offer early out when I’m eligible and again, that has zero to do with the pandemic or the vaccine or telework. SSA is just a mess right now and it looks like it will be years before it’s better.

Early retirement is usually a good deal only for those who were going to retire within a year or so anyway. No surprise here.

Early outs are just one relatively small subset of retirements.

I just retired in part due to the mandate. It wasn't the only reason but it pushed the date up a year.

As a lawyer, I am not for against anybody being required to vaccinate. However, just be smart. If you want to work in an organization that helps older and disabled people, then take the jab.

Keep it pushing and don't complain. Unless you have some extreme allergic reaction to the Covid vaccines. Take the vaccine. It is not that hard.

Once they find out that they have no real transferable skills to the real world and will not get inflated pay, cheap healthcare, and are not protected by some farcical union, they tend to stay.

I am a CS who has real transferable skills and found a job which pays more $$$ and has cheap healthcare... My last day is next thursday... Glad I wont have to deal with fools like you anymore. Come next year my soon to be former office will have even more less staff with retirements. Good luck and keep attacking the hardworking employees of SSA.

Gee .. non-transferable skills .. hmm .. i know of 6 former colleagues who now work P/T for attorney reps on SSA cases. Decent pay , flexible hours . BTW one can carry "cheap" (not so ) health care into retirement.

Since everyone on here seems to think SSA workers are lazy and have no "real" skills...tell me, why do you expect work to reflect anything different.

I mean honestly, you're the real idiots. It would be like expecting the claimant's to know all the program rules right?
