Sounds like no policy role--and that would not be new. Rather, he does the nuts and bolts management stuff at SSA. Not a bad idea, assuming the White House is OK with his managerial capability.

Ok with what management ability? Astrue seemed mainly concerned with his job security and relationship with Geithner than backlogs. Admittedly, this is not the sort of audience you'd expect to be looking at nuts and bolts. And, it's certainly not a good thing for this COSS to set any policy. But, the second speaker on this clip had something to say about retirement security. Astrue didn't. I know, I'm picky, picky, picky.

Nancy, chill. I wasn't saying that he had an managerial ability; I was only noting that the WH would have to think that he did. Frankly, I haven't been remotely impressed with Mike's most recent run with SSA so far. Lots of poor executive decisions, IMHO.
