Another NY Field Office To Close

Social Security plans to close its office in Ulster County, NY even though 39% of the county's population receives either Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. Local politicians are unhappy. These office closures are an inevitable consequence of the limited funding being given to the agency.

39% of population already receiving Social Security and/or SSI? Looks like the government already did its job here and it is time to close up shop and move on! This sure must be a model of prosperity for other communities in the USA!

This is actually pretty typical of upstate NY. All of the young working-age people are moving out due to the lack of job opportunities caused by blue-state taxes and regulations.

Charles--your goal of getting everyone on disability is becoming clearer everyday. The real story here is the 39%! How is that possible without a broken system?

Maybe they're leaving because it's bitterly cold, nondiverse, and generally depressing up there. The only people I know who flee a place because of "burdensome regulations and taxes" are super rich business owners. There aren't lots of those superstars in upstate new york, lololol

Dear 3:23 - In an effort to promote diversity (which would obviously improve things in this community), lets relocate some people from Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, and various other diverse cities to this community. Let us also bring in people from warmer areas such as Miami, East LA (Hispanics give a 2 for 1 bonus) and Hawaii (another 2 for 1 bonus for pacific islanders). After all, it is a violation of civil rights that a disproportionate number of white folks have to live in a bitterly cold and depressing area.
