SSA 800 # was slammed on June 3. Over 463,000 calls -- 140k more calls than a few days earlier. Why? In part because of a bogus news story about a $600 payment increase. This is FALSE: No COLA until January 2025. Big thanks to all SSA staff who helped customers with this rumor.

In fact, the intro message when I called a local office today even included comments that there was no such payment coming.
This is another example of the misinformation by the press and how the public accepts it as a fact without verifying the information. Secondly, the pandemic has passed for now and we are in no position to pass out $600 checks with a 34 trillion dollar federal deficit. The public is desperate for additional funds despite the record breaking stock and job market.

Are they accepting it as fact or are they trying to call Social Security to verify its authenticity, leading to the title/post at hand??
Put enough clickbait out there and enough will fall for it to create problems. . .
even if the news was true, why did people feel the need to call SSA?
Of course they got more calls than a few days earlier, June 3rd is a major check day and an SSI potential nonreceipt day. OMalley is conflating the statistics on this to grab spotlight.
Why do you think? To find out when the $$$ will hit their account.
