From The Guardian:
Office closures, staffing and service cuts, and policy changes at the Social Security Administration (SSA) have caused “complete, utter chaos” and are threatening to send the agency into a “death spiral”, according to workers at the agency. …
“They have these ‘concepts of plans’ that they’re hoping are sticking but in reality, are really hurting American people,” said a longtime SSA employee and military veteran who requested to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation. “No one knows what’s going on. They’re just coming up with ideas at the top of their head.” …
“It’s just been a lot of craziness, a lot of foolishness. Until they get rid of Doge and the person in office right now, and the Republicans actually get a backbone and stand up for something for once in their lives, things are just going to be complete chaos. That’s really the best word to describe SSA right now, just complete, utter chaos,” the worker added. “They couldn’t understand the coding, so everything they said SSA was doing illegally, they weren’t. Common sense is something they lack. They don’t know what they’re doing.” …

Thanks for fixing the link!
Not wrong. Take the identity verification changes coming. The mandatory training video is described as “not comprehensive”. Designed to supplement the EM. The EM is described as “dense and technical”. The policy takes effect April 14. Guess when they are releasing the EM? April 14. So the day is the policy is effective is the day we get the actual policy. And we are supposed to know and be able to accurately apply the new “dense and technical” policy that we do not get until the day of.
What is being done to the lives of the SSA workforce is both immoral and not in the best interests of the benes. They are kept in the dark and not knowing if they have a job tomorrow morning. This is totally unacceptable and will come back to bite the administration. Radical, unthought touching of SSA operations is the death knell for the most efficient government agency. Imagine 70 million people being serviced by 50,000 SSA employees. No company has that low of an employee to customer ratio!
The best source of information about SSA is the weekly meetings with the ACOSS on YouTube.
The dismantling of the Social Security Administration under DOGE is a national disgrace. We’re witnessing the deliberate hollowing out of critical services and oversight mechanisms that millions of Americans rely on. This isn’t reform — it’s sabotage.
Cuts to staffing. Closure of offices. Suppression of watchdog efforts. All while seniors, the disabled, and the vulnerable are left waiting, unheard.
This isn’t fiscal responsibility — it’s calculated cruelty. Call it what it is. Then call your representatives.
Take to the streets. Make noise. Let everyone know how harmful the decisions made by DOGE and the current administration are to you, your family, your children, and the American people.
Democracy dies in silence. Don’t let the oligarchs win.
I think the production positions by now feel like their job is not in jeopardy. It's the RO and CO positions that are questionable.
Let’s be honest about what’s going on at SSA. The chaplain has been called to give out the last rites. Only a miracle can save this agency. Senior citizen groups were more interested in passing the GPO and WEP legislation than in saving SSA. Where was AARP a few months ago? They are little late to the show when major damage has been done to the agency. SSA recipients are finally waking up to the probability that they might not receive a check in the next couple of months. Hoping that it is not too late to reverse course.
Common sense and rational thought are desperately needed at SSA. The FO employees are not safe. They are only a part of the mission. Without support, they will have no job or safe workplace. There will be no one to pay the rent for office space, pay for lights, keep the office heated and cooled, process complex cases, handle reconsiderations, pay for everyday supplies, keep their systems running or even protecting their safety. Truly, no one does it alone and all will eventually feel the pain of what is being done. Only our prayers to our Creator will help at this point!
Leland, is that you?
How did ALJs escape all this? No RIFs and no RTO, they work from home in pajamas most days, yet are the agency's highest paid. Most don't have enough work. Could probably reduce by half and you'd be fine until the DDS backlog hits.
Have you worked at the hearing office? How do you know they have no work?
@6:40 getting too many denials? Good lord the disrespect.
lmao an utter embarrassment
@6:40 your daily ketamine hit is already wearing off, Elon. You're spouting nonsense again.
The website has crashed repeatedly in recent weeks with outages lasting anywhere from 20 minutes to almost a day according to six current and former officials with knowledge of the issues. Even when the site is

Because the status quo was so great.
Your ignorance is palpable.
RIFs are about start- Executives are trying to save themselves first.
Oh they have not. GS-14+ is cooked.
No worries! Once the wolfs on Wall Street have the trust funds to gamble with, all will be rainbows and unicorns! Oh wait. . .
A warning…
Senator Tommy Tuberville, an Alabama Republican, warned on Fox News' Sunday Morning Futures that entitlement programs like Social Security could "blow up" if Democrats don't support Republican policy reforms and tax cuts.
Newsweek has reached out to Tuberville's press team, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' press teams for comment via email on Sunday.
