Default Overpayment Recovery Rate To Be 50%

Newly issued Social Security Emergency Message EM 25029 indicates that the default overpayment recovery rate will be 50%, not 100% as feared. It had been 10% for about the last year. Also, those already told they had a 10% recovery rate won’t see that rate rise.

Most SSA beneficiaries rely solely on Social Security and “only” a withholding rate of 50% is a step closer to homelessness. Having staffing levels that are low will only increase the overpayment levels since workloads are not being addressed.

I guess this is what a win looks like these days. Just die slower.

They can request a lower amount or file a waiver. 100 percent is what the default should be. Those that can't afford 100 percent, contact SSA for a lower amount.

This is a PR propaganda move, nothing more and nothing less. The administration has finally figured out how badly they've FUBAR'd themselves in the court of public opinion related to SSA issues and how much it has hurt the Orange Oaf's approval ratings. They are trying to wring out any positive PR they can, and this is what they came up with.
