The sky is falling we need to cut back field office hours and stop sending out Social Security Statements. BS
There is a hireing freeze throughout SSA, but ODAR Hearing Offices are still allowed to hire to help keep down the backlog. ODAR also gave out a good amount of OT to ODAR employees at the end of FY 2011 to try and eliminate AGED Cases.
In the Appeals Council, you would never know there is a hiring freeze, recession, or any budgetary issues whatsoever. Hiring and promotions are routine, and as a result, the AC has more than doubled in size in two years. Even the AC's Deputy Director's son was hired as as an analyst for a while until he found a better job.
