From some television station in Cleveland:
AVON LAKE, Ohio — An Avon Lake couple tried to change their address but faced issues after dealing with the Social Security Administration (SSA) systems for hours.Gloria and Walton Britton moved to Avon Lake last month and began changing their address so that credit cards and other bills, including social security, were sent to the right location. They spent days on the phone trying to reach someone to make the address change, but nobody ever answered.
"Hurt, frustrated, disrespected," Gloria said.
She tried to reach someone at the Social Security administration’s office but said it was impossible.
"I gave up one day after three hours of sitting on hold and didn't even get a call back option," Gloria explained.
The couple even tried to log in through the SSA’s website but could not reach the page where they could change their address or set up an appointment. …

Frank Bisignano stated in the CNBC interview that they already are trying to use AI on the phone lines and will absolutely be working with the racist DOGE.
But yeah, the agency is overstaffed. Riiiight.
He really said that eh? Working with the racist DOGE - Got it. Any particular reason you think we shouldn't use some AI? I mean sure it's nice to have a job, but there are so many things we can do. If AI can do some of the work monkeys could do, I say bring it. With that said, some of our monkeys don't do too good so maybe this could be a win if we actually get better at what we do.
Today’s Washington Post ..
In chaotic Washington blitz, Elon Musk's ultimate goal becomes clear. Shrink government, control data and -- according to one official closely watching the billionaire's DOGE -- replace “the human workforce with machines.”
This will be a cake fix for the very talented Frank Bisignano. The child geniuses at DOGE will easily code new systems allowing Ms. Britton to do this simply online, so she will never have to wait again. Gee, maybe if O'Malley quit filming so many motivation videos and focused on this we could have gotten something done.
My legal assistant sent in a change of address to the local office only to get it kicked back with a note stating “attorney reps are no longer permitted to submit a change of address request; your client must contact us directly.” My client met the same fate as the subject in the story above.
Yep! Similar experience with the local field office. Difficult to reach anyone. Republicans destroying everything including the economy or at least forcing the private business sector to tighten because of tariffs.
Has Elon and his monkeys had a background check? I have no problem in having a more efficient government but there is a way to do it legally.
I had no problem dealing with my local SSA office. Went online and set up an appointment for a CS from the local FO to call me back a few days later. . She did, and I filed my application over the phone. There are probably many more people who have no problems contacting SSA, , than those who do.
I find it interesting that a convicted felon who doesn’t text is more than willing to give access to individuals with a sketchy past.
I'm sorry that happened to you. OHO has had no such guidance on open claims. We're still processing COA's as long as we have an open case.
@11:00: Because AI is absolutely horrible at tasks that require any sort of higher-level thought or insight into humanity. AI is great at doing simple things quickly, and confidently spewing bulls**t in a convincing way, but complete s**t at tasks that require actual intelligence.
You guys need to check out Frank Bisignano's CNBC interview stat. Dude was spitting straight FIRE. He's a DOGE guy; bringing AI to SSA (SSAI, anyone?), and we'll quickly whip teleworking government employees into shape. I, for one, cannot wait to see the progress.
Frank likely has PR people posting on this website and publishing puff pieces about his skills. His interview on cnbc talks about how he raised gross margins. Ssa is not a business. He cannot squeeze more money out of the program. The main function of SSA is to administer RSHI/DIB and SSI.
The federal workforce will be reduced one way or another.
The Trump administration ordered all heads of federal departments and agencies Thursday to provide lists of their lowest-performing employees and signaled mass job terminations could be coming.
A memo from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management to department heads requests the names of all employees who received less than a “fully successful” performance rating in the past three years.
The order from OPM Acting Director Charles Ezell also asks that departments and agencies identify potential barriers to ensuring "the ability to swiftly terminate poor performing employees who cannot or will not improve."
You think DOGE will care about paying attorney fees? Your business is about to go under too along with the agency.
Here, here, @10:22. We are long past time for a mass firing of the bottom masses. Fire them all and hire some devoted people. While I'm not as exuberant as others, I'll be curious to see what Mr. Bisignano can bring to the table. He really had a blowout quarter in his last one as CEO. Do you think he can do the same with SSA with a newly motivated work force?
SSA is at a 50 year staffing low, while serving more people than ever before. Morale has been low for years, and this current environment that we are in where insults are being hurled at federal workers daily is doing nothing to improve morale. How much institutional knowledge is about to be lost with the 5 day a week RTO mandate? But sure, let’s just blame all of SSA’s problems on teleworking.
What will motivate them? RTO 5 days a week? Doing even more with even less staff? Continuing to be berated in the press/social media for being lazy and stupid?
I cannot tell if your comment was sarcasm or not. People do not want to work for SSA. With TW ending and the chaos brought on by Trump and his minions, no one in their right mind would want to work here and take the daily chaos and abuse.
I can translate. Instead of using more agency funding to hire needed staff, we're going to give fat contracts to AI companies that donated to ... (ahem excuse me) I meant to say, to qualified respectable companies. After the payoff... (ahem excuse me again) years of paying out on those contracts, once it becomes apparent that AI is not capable of giving reliable advice on the complex issues that beneficiaries and claimants call with, we will blame all the mistakes on DEI hires.
Well, they'll be upset to learn at SSA, very few have been deemed unsuccessful. Now, we all know many ARE unsuccessful, but the PACS rating system and union friendly contract ensures very few ever get an unsuccessful rating.
I'll take a middle ground. Definitely adopt AI and get it to root out as much low hanging fruit as possible. Spend whatever; it's worth it. Close as many offices as possible and let people work from home. BUT hold them to very high production standards in exchange for full-time telework. They don't hit them? Then they're back five days a week to some decrepit office until they can.
President Elon should get his DOGE team to investigate this statement. Let the public know if this allegation is accurate.
Trump added, "We're going to strengthen our Social Security, etc. We're not going to touch it other than to make it stronger. But we have people that shouldn't be on, and those people we have to weed out, most of them, or many of them, so far, have been illegal immigrants."
You think they care about the truth? You think this is remotely possible? I’d love to hear your explanation for how an undocumented person is collecting anything from SS. Just take a minute to think about how they’d be able to collect on an SSN that belongs to someone else with a different name or simply doesn’t exist.
There are far more undocumented immigrants paying into a system they’ll never collect from than are illegally receiving benefits.
Is Musk aware of the equal branches of government?
Elon Musk is calling for the impeachment of the federal judge who made a decision early Saturday morning that the Treasury Department should block access to anyone “other than civil servants with a need for access to perform their job duties” from its payment systems.
The order explicitly prohibits special government employees and those detailed from outside the department from getting access to the systems, a designation that would cover Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
That appeared to anger Musk, who expressed his irritation in a few Saturday posts on the social platform X, which he owns.
As managers we have tried to rate hold poor performers accountable and upper management will not let us … no support from HQ or RO
Motivational Mondays hit hard bruh
Will leadership call themselves out for underperforming? Always the leadership that cut the staff that do the work. They are told by leadership what to do. If what they do does not improve the process or cut costs they get the blame not the leaders. Same in the private sector. I think most folks are looking in the wrong place to make changes.
This should start with ACOSS King, who has screwed up most places she has worked at SSA (BFM, DCO, etc)…no leadership abilities, no accountability, and all she cares about is preserving own career
Exactly, we need to trim the federal workforce in order to give big contracts to Trump's friends. Funny thing is the contracts will need to hire folks that probably come from the agency in the first place at a much lower rate. All of this will fatten the top1% wallets even more when making the rest of the economy suffer.
OHO staff are already on unbelievably stringent productivity standards. So high most don’t even take a lunch break anymore. And you’re paying through the nose for it, because the result is an unbelievably high rate of remands that come with expensive attorneys fees on top of all the extra work defending and redoing the work. But keep spouting off about things your tiny mind can’t understand, chap, and maybe you‘ll get invited to join the little kids table- er, I mean DOGE.
