The Rise Of Dudek

    From the Wall Street Journal:

Leland Dudek had spent more than a decade at the Social Security Administration, including time overseeing a fraud investigation office, but was largely unknown to senior executives at the agency.

Just last week, in a now-deleted LinkedIn post, Dudek said that he was put on administrative leave for cooperating with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

“I confess. I bullied agency executives, shared executive contact information, and circumvented the chain of command to connect DOGE with the people who get stuff done,” he wrote in the post, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. …

[Michelle] King was informed in an email Sunday morning that Dudek had been elevated to acting commissioner and she decided to retire from the agency after three decades, some of the people said.

Dudek’s elevation to acting commissioner followed a tumultuous period in which members of Social Security’s leadership team grew concerned about the manner in which he was helping DOGE personnel, some of the people said. They had received information that Dudek had been sharing information with nonagency personnel beginning in December, before Trump’s inauguration, and heard complaints from career staff who said he had pressured them to help DOGE representatives, these people said. …

This picture is not SSA ACoss Lee Dudek (it's some other poor schmuck who's face is being smeared due to poor reporting by the media).

I have only worked at the agency for a decade, but I’ve never heard of anything like this happening. He was a GS-15 Division Director in OARO. He didn’t even lead the Program Integrity Office. Now he is leading the agency? It’s not just that he bypassed hundreds of more qualified Executives. All signs seem to indicate that he was selected because he was the only one DOGE could find stupid enough to go along with them. Does he understand our Budget process? Does he understand the intricacies of labor relations? There is a big difference in managing a few million dollars versus a few billion dollars and a huge difference in managing ten employees versus tens of thousands. I hope he listens to the grown ups in the room and doesn’t try to change anything.

So actions that would get me s#!t-canned get him a huuuuge promotion.

Why isn’t Dudek wearing his MAGA hat? He sold out the agency and the taxpayers who trust that their private information would not be compromised. This was all done in the name of Republican tax cuts and possibly the privatization of the agency.

If the report is correct, he publicly self-identified as a person who bullies others and who doesn’t follow rules? And he was soon afterwards put In charge of a major Federal agency? Well gosh America, hold my beer and let’s see what happens.

The bullying should have gotten him promoted to the SES

Dudek told staff in an email Monday night that he will lead the agency “in an open and transparent manner,” saying his first call went to the SSA’s Inspector General’s office. “Transparency is at the heart of good government,” he said in the email reviewed by the Journal.

So my challenge to Lee is this - explain to your employees - all 58,00 of them - how you REALLY got selected for a position that you are vastly unqualified for. How do you explain your efforts to breach the oath that we've all taken? Do you condone the rest of your employees doing whatever they want because they believe they are smarter than Agency leadership? Will you ensure that anyone else on administrative leave is immediately able to return to a higher position? Will you promote all employees that fail to follow instructions just like you got promoted? And since you want outsourcing of thousands of TSC employees to be one of your focuses, be sure to tell those employees what they can expect from you - will they lose their jobs today? Tomorrow? And lastly, be sure to start prepping your paperwork for your next job, because no one will trust you any longer. And rightfully so.

He wasnt even a DD. He was not management.

The fact that an untrained and underqualified person is running a major agency is nothing new, the terrifying one is the underqualified person heading up the pentagon. Thats terrifying. This dude might mess up some checks for a month or two, the other one could get people killed and leave us vulnerable to attack. But they are loyal!!!!

"...they had received information that Dudek had been sharing information with nonagency personnel"

I bet Dudek didn't get his SSA Shark Awards for phishing reporting, and he's lashing out in anger....

And what a surprise... The person who supposedly placed him on administrative leave was just removed from her position and demoted….. I mean “reassigned.”

I love seeing the old guard sweat. Love all this uproar. You all talk as if the agency was working so well. There IS a problem folks. The old way of business as usual has not worked. Shake it up. It can only get better from here.

"It can only get better from here".

Really? It's easy to forget that stary-eyed optimists still exist until you run into one in the wild. We aren't even close to rock bottom yet.

Labor relations? In the new SSA, the only labor relations that will exist is "Do what I (i.e. Trump) say or be fired". That won't be difficult for him to deal with.

Congrats Commissioner Dudek! Already a huge improvement above your predecessor.
