A warning…. One Baltimore-based staffer who works on payment systems told the Washington Post that nearly a quarter of his team is gone or will soon be gone due to resignations and retirements.
Those with top software skills are leaving the Social Security Administration to get high-paying jobs in the private sector, he added.
As a result, several software updates and modernization processes that were supposed to be completed soon will likely miss their deadlines, and many of the experts who fix glitches that can stop payments are now exiting, the report said.
"That has to get cleaned up on a case-by-case basis, and the experts in how to do that are leaving," the Baltimore employee told the Post. "We will have cases that get stuck, and they’re not going to be able to get fixed. People could be out of benefits for months."
Our office has one stack of printed envelopes left for paper mailings. There's no way we'll be allowed to ever order more. This isn't even satire, it's just fact.
Love SSA. Have been an employee for decades. But sorry top tech talent is NOT currently working at SSA. If they leave Elon can replace them with much better.

Well we are not allowed to order paper. Cartoon is not much of a stretch from reality.
Are we going back to the carrier mail? It worked pretty well in the past. We all need to look at all options to improve the service at SSA.
Carrier pigeons were used throughout the First World War to send short messages on land, in the air and at sea.
I can't help but laugh at the cartoon, but also it's a laugh with a bit of cognitive dissonance associated to fear.

When you don’t know
What you don’t know
Only dipped your toe
In the ocean
You shouldn’t dive in
Until you can swim
Your ignorance
Causes destruction
When you break things
And mistake things
Start saying fake things
We’ll know it’s you
You dance with devils
Mangle and meddle
But when your dance is through
You’ll have to pay your dues

This is much more accurate than you might realize

I wouldn't trust Elon to watch my cat while I'm on vacation.
