No Government Shutdown

There won’t be a government shutdown because Senate Democrats are craven cowards.

Feckless.

Coward is hyperbole in my opinion. It’s a rock and a hard place situation.

In some ways the administration looks like it’s almost itching for a shutdown and daring Democrats to touch the stove. Last month, Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought notably gave agencies until Thursday to submit plans for “large-scale reductions in force.” The details could spill out hours before a shutdown and would almost certainly agitate the Democratic base even further.

Considering the possibility that during a shutdown DOGE, which could either be deemed "essential" by the administration or could just disregard law (all signs point to yes), could obtain access to essentially any government system with even less oversight than it already is, this may not be the worst outcome.

There are two horrible options because the GOP has gone completely insane. It's hard to negotiate with a hostage taker that is ready and willing to shoot the hostage. If a shut down would lead to the judicial branch having to shutter, that would be... quite bad.

Not cowards - just bought and paid for by wealthy greed driven lobby

After holding the White House for 12 of the last 16 years and failing to fix the agency, did you expect anything different?

Wait, senate democrats held the white house for 12 year? I thought that was the president’s home. I guess I’m just too ignorant to be a good red blooded MAGA patriot.

Please do us all a favor and sit out the upcoming elections until you at least learn the basics about each major branch of government. I’ll start you off: there are 3 of them.

Not sure what you think a shutdown will accomplish? That just helps Elon in his argument that federal employees are non-essential.

But if they don’t roll over and give the GOP what it wants, how will they court the votes of diehard republicans who have never and never will vote for a democrat no matter how many horrible things the republicans do and promise to do to continue making their lives miserable so that Elon and Mark can buy a bigger yacht?

Why is it bad for the Republicans to shut down the government but now when Democrats have the chance and don't take it, they are cowards?

This relates to Social Security how? Thought this was a Social Security blog.

Dems should have been screaming their lungs out about the budget from the start. Whimpering at the end. Reps really don’t care either as they will make us all pay for the tax cuts to the rich and make the rest of pay through cuts to grants, Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Health and Social Security Retirement. I really hate both parties as they are both a group of cowards. All of us are going to get hurt.

Dude, since the Senate does not control the White House, but Democrats did, it should have been obvious I was referring to Democrats. Or are you really that stupid?

Anonymous said...

Maybe you missed this, but Social Security is a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT agency/program.

Republicans figured out decades ago that appealing to republican voters is the best way to get republican voters to elect them. Democrats have somehow interpreted this to mean that they, too, must act like republicans in order to get democratic voters to elect them. Given that the closeness of the 2020 election failed to disabuse them of this idiotic notion, I don’t think they’ll ever learn.

Okay. I’ll pretend you’re arguing in good faith. Your argument is still ridiculous and based on lies. The democrats held both chambers of Congress and the white house for only 4 of the past 16 years, and had enough votes to overcome the senate filibuster during zero of them. Meanwhile, the GOP fought tooth and nail to prevent them from passing anything at all, and didn’t do a damned thing to fix SSA when they held all the cards. But yeah, blame the ones who tried to fix it, Nazi-lover.

LOL. from "I'll pretend you're arguing in good faith" to triggering Godwin's Law in the same paragraph. Dude, you lost the argument.

@8:01: He makes Nazi salutes, minimizes the holocaust, and even told member of Germany’s far right nationalist party that the should be proud of the country’s history of Naziism and quit apologizing for its murder of millions of jewish people. So there’s nothing Godwin about calling the bastard a Nazi.

Hate to say I told you so, but I put in my $0.02 a week ago and called this 100%
