Social Security Provides Update about its Death Record
Social Security announced today that more than three million deaths are reported to the Social Security Administration each year and explains that the agency’s records are highly accurate. Of these millions of death reports received each year, less than one-third of 1 percent are erroneously reported deaths that need to be corrected.
Deaths are reported to Social Security primarily from the States, but also from other sources, including family members, funeral homes, Federal agencies, and financial institutions. In a 2008 audit report, the IG noted that “SSA receives most death reports from funeral homes or friends/relatives of the deceased. SSA considers such first party death reports to be verified and immediately posts them to the Death Master File.”
Instances when a person is erroneously reported as deceased to Social Security can be devasting to the individual, spouse, and dependent children. Benefits are stopped in the short term which can cause financial hardship until fixed and benefits restored, and the process to prove an erroneous death will always seem too long and challenging.
If a person suspects that they have been incorrectly listed as deceased on their Social Security record, they should contact their local Social Security office as soon as possible. They can locate their nearest Social Security office at www.ssa.gov/agency/contact/. They should be prepared to bring at least one piece of current (not expired) original form of identification. Social Security takes immediate action to correct its records and the agency can provide a letter that the error has been corrected that can be shared with other organizations, agencies, and employers.
If the Trump Administration is going to pretend there are millions of dead people receiving Social Security benefits, they shouldn't complain about reports concerning the real people who aren’t receiving the benefits they’re due because of errors in the Death Master File.

Leland, there is high probability that you will be going to court to account for your actions. Lawyer up!
It’s interesting to me that MAGA Leland and DOGE release this information on a SUNDAY. Then again, nothing surprises me these days.
This press release came out because DOGE input dates of death on all the 120 year olds that are deceased and not receiving benefits but lacked a date of death due to the operating system. This equated to around 7.3 million records. It was done so quickly using the system run date as the date of death that they may have inadvertently input a date of death for someone alive.
Thank you to all SSA/DDS employees. I know the great majority are hard-working and efficient, whether working at home or in the office. George Orwell would love the claims of "government efficiency" and "fraud, waste, and abuse". DOGE is the most inefficient, fraudulent, wasteful, and abusive of any agency.
Let’s go down the oldies but goodies hit list..
Billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday claimed that a cursory review of Social Security records by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) found evidence that the safety net program is paying benefits to 150-year-olds.
Musk, who has been tasked with leading DOGE as a special government employee, spoke to reporters on Tuesday from the Oval Office of the White House with President Donald Trump and said DOGE found payments going to beneficiaries listed as being around the age of 150, though he didn't go into detail about the claims.
"There's crazy things, like, just a cursory examination of Social Security and we've got people in there that are about 150 years old," Musk said. "Now, do you know anyone that's 150? I don't. They should be in the Guinness Book of World Records, they're missing out."
Sadly, if fotus and muskrat say it, the foxaholics believe it. That’s the real Fake News.
Probably in response to an article in the Seattle times https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/heres-a-dead-person-on-social-security-in-seattle-with-plenty-to-say/
Elon already cracked this. Some real old people, 150 years +, receiving SSA benefits. Hilarious. DOGE is ensuring SSA makes the necessary changes so the agency stops paying these people.
Trump Press Secretary Doubles Down On Debunked Social Security Fraud Lies.
He has attorneys that handle everything he has done as ACOSS. The acts of an Agency official in his official capacity are defended by OGC and/or DOJ. He is not personally liable for any of what he has done as ACOSS just because you, I, or anyone else don't like it, think it is ill-conceived, or against the law.
Wait, they used the system run date? They deliberately entered false information into an official Agency database? If I did that, I would get fired.
Proof that any were actually receiving benefits? Because they have walked back their original claim multiple times since once it became clear they weren't reading the data correctly.
Unfortunately lee is a DOGE puppet any wrong doing will be pardoned by the orange god. The Republicans will not stand up for SSA employees. Sad day at SSA.
Why fill the database with inaccurate data when Social Security Benefits are automatically cut off at the age of 115 years old?

@5:37 LeLe is still in trouble and he knows it and has spoke on it. It won’t be for his official acts it’ll be his prior acts of allowing access and taking docs etc. while he was trying to impress DOGE crew. He most certainly will need counsel.
The key word there was "cursory". They don't know enough to even be able to interpret what the data even means.
anon@3:50pm,
DOGE didn't do squat. There were already protections in place long before Musk ever graced SSA with his atrocious body odor.
@3:48 -- You think this DOJ is going to anything at all about that? If this administration cared one lick about it, he wouldn't have been not only reinstated but installed as ACOSS. This administration cares about one thing and one thing only -- are you loyal to Trump and willing to do what he says no matter what? As long as that answer is yes, and they have use for you, it doesn't matter what you do.

Scary how much they are messing with the system without any care for people directly affected and no oversight.
OGC/DOJ can only do so much. Leland will have to be involved. Given the atrocities by DOGE and Lee's response, I look forward to seeing Lee in court.
