From The Hill:
Senate Republicans want Elon Musk to stop talking about Social Security, and the Department of Government Efficiency to leave it alone. …
They warn that Social Security reform is known as the “third rail” of politics for a reason: Any party that touches it is likely to get zapped come Election Day.
And Republicans fear that reductions in staff and field offices will boomerang on them, predicting constituents will grow frustrated if it becomes more difficult and time-consuming to address problems related to benefit claims.

“It doesn’t help the president when you have somebody who clearly is not worried about whether or not Social Security benefits are going to be there for him” leading the effort to shrink the Social Security Administration, said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), referring to Musk, the world’s richest person. …

Disingenuous article. Murkowski is hardly a Republican.
Senate Republicans have the authority to have Musk testify before them and if he doesn’t they can stop him. The Senate Republicans are getting heat from their constituents and it’s time for action or they will be replaced. Talk is cheap. This applies to both sides of the aisle.
DOGE must be using the savings to pay the trolls to be here now.
Please note that the federal government is the largest employer in Alaska and the hit to the state economy over the loss of jobs is going to be very significant there. But DOGE doesnt understand this, like they have no clue about SSA. Pop some corn Mertle this is going to be more interesting than the neighbors!
Thanks, Leland!
Ignore her at your own peril, Leland.
I only read ONE Republican going on the record. What COWARDS! Knee pads needed for all Republicans. Do your job!
Elon Musk says he's shocked at the level of Tesla hate and vandalism happening: 'I've never done anything harmful'
Sen. Murkowski is a smart woman and a much smarter congressional republican. Defending the rich won't help republicans if the economy go deep south(recession).
Musk should go back to his day job since his stock is tanking.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a cosmetic appliqué along the exterior of the vehicles, known as the cant rail, can delaminate and detach from the vehicle, which the agency said could create a road hazard for motorists. The cant rail is a long piece of metal trim over the left and ride side windows.
The NHTSA said the recall population includes 46,096 model year 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks made from Nov. 13, 2023, to Feb. 27, 2025. That is the majority of all Cybertrucks, which Tesla first released in November 2023.
The agency said Tesla isn’t aware of any collisions, fatalities or injuries related to the issue, and that the electric-vehicle maker will replace the cant rail assemblies free of charge.
What do I expect from Congressional Republicans? They will either march lockstep with Chairman Mao ZeTrump or be purged from The Party.
Article should read: One Republican who will lose next election joins dems. The rest of the republicans and their constituents are very happy with the work DOGE and Dudek are doing. Also why is everyone complaining? Leland personally saved us from major RIF layoffs.
Watch the Republican Town Halls "gavel to gavel" on CSPAN. Real eye opener. MAGAs try to claim those are just "leftist operatives", but their not. Fascinating watching. No editorializing. Use your critical thinking skills.
Whatever you say, Leland.
This isnt about RIF this is about the public we serve. Messing with them is what is irritating them. That woman doesnt care about us she seethed when we had admin leave in May, please.
SSA is not only field offices! To do their jobs in the field require support back in the local Regional Offices. Those support people are being jerked around and is having a devastating effect on those people and their families. It is apparent no one knows what it takes to support the field. You can not tell people one thing today and tomorrow something else. People's lives are at stake!
Well, if Leland follows through on his threat to “shut down” SSA because his upset with the rule of law, shouldn’t be an issue.
