Senate Republicans Say “Don’t Blame Us”

      From NBC News:

WASHINGTON — Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is moving to downsize the Social Security Administration with office closures, cutbacks on phone services and new rules requiring in-person visits for some prospective beneficiaries to register.

And DOGE is making those changes without consulting or notifying some of the most senior lawmakers on Capitol Hill who oversee Social Security, including GOP allies of President Donald Trump. …

Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., a Senate Finance Committee member who on Tuesday pressed Trump’s nominee to lead the Social Security Administration about long wait times for customer service, said in an interview that he, too, hasn’t been in the loop for the administration’s changes.

“No, we haven’t,” he said. “I haven’t had any heads-up on any specific announcements.” …

If there were only something these Senate Republicans could do, like delay a nomination or hold a hearing on what DOGE is doing, but, of course, that’s out of the question.

They know their base doesn’t care, and that democrats don’t pose a threat because they’re driving their own supporters away to chase mythical swing voters and conservatives willing to vote for democrats (while paradoxically ranting about how the nation is more polarized and partisan than ever before). S**t ain’t going to change, and they know it.

Shame on every damn Republican Senator who doesn't have the spine or moral compass to speak up to Trump or hold Trump, Musk and his minions accountable for SSA and other agencies being out of control. It's going to be a sad day in hell when those that depend on their SS benefits find out they have been sent to the curb. The homeless rates will increase. The crime rate will increase (people will feel the need to steal food just to survive).

What goes around, comes around. KARMA will be a bitch, and it will be too late to rectify the damage. It's difficult to believe this is the sad world we are living in. Where a felon is elected to the highest office in the world, where the felon and everyone who cowtails to him LIE to the public and themselves. It's so much easier to tell the TRUTH than to LIE, because you don't have to try to remember what you told others. The TRUTH never changes. All of Trump's cronies (immoral and dishonest people) he put in for secretaries LIE. What the hell does Trump have over any of them?

Trump is not a president for ALL. He's only a president for the mega rich. Trump only ran for president again to stay out of jail.

This is called a circular firing squad.

And DOGE is making those changes without consulting or notifying some of the most senior lawmakers on Capitol Hill who oversee Social Security, including GOP allies of President Donald Trump.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the Senate Finance subcommittee on Social Security, said he had not been told ahead of time about DOGE's moves at the agency.

No, I have not been,” Grassley told NBC News.
Asked if it would be helpful to his job if he were given a heads-up, Grassley repeated, “I have not been. I have not been.”

Daines said he would appreciate advance notice about the changes the administration makes to Social Security.
